Yesterday (March 3) was the night before yuanshao jie, or the lantern festival. It takes place 14 days after the new year, under the light of the full moon. In the morning, Yipo came over with a paper pig lantern for Binibn. We put it together, and after the sun set, we went walking around our neighborhood. Binbin wasn't too keen on keeping the light on, however. Instead, it seemed, his thoughts turned to shopping, which really means he would prefer to go up and down the escalator ramps and to clamber on to the various kiddie rides that abound in the "Love to Shop 愛買" and "Happy Lucky Family 家樂福" shops.
Meanwhile, back at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial, throngs of Taiwanese would be gathering to see the lanterns and lit displays. We strolled by in the late morning, when vendors of trinkets and various edibles were just opening or still setting up shop.
